Summer Lovin

Summer lovin, had me a blast...
Summer lovin, happened so fast...

It's definitely been a blast so far, and it IS definitely going by too fast!  We're coming off of weeks of preparing to go out of town and then 10 days of actually being out of town.

Our summer vacation started off with a 3 day trip to Louisiana for my great grandmother's 90th Birthday.  Dorothy Huckaby, my dad's mother's mother, was celebrating her 90th birthday.  I haven't been to Louisiana in years, almost 10 years, so it was quite a treat to make the trip with Eli and Payton.  Didn't know how Eli would handle the 7 hour drive so we turned Eli's car seat to face forward so that he could watch the DVD player in the headrest.  He loved it and was an angel the entire drive, roundtrip.  Here are some pics from our time in Louisiana:

After our trip to Louisiana, we headed to Dallas.  Payton and I had a trip planned to Mexico, and Nonna and Poppa offered to watch Eli while we were gone.  We truly missed our boy, but it was great to reconnect as Payton and Candace, instead of "mom" and "dad".  I truly believe (granted I've only been a mom for 11 months) that making time for each other to not be "mom" and "dad" is so important.  With Eli, there is a constant awareness and concern for where he is, what he's doing, what he has in his mouth, and it was nice to have time where all we were concerned about was ourselves, each other, eating, sleeping, and relaxing.

We flew from Dallas to Cancun, then took a car from the airport to Tulum, about an hour and a half away.  It was storming when we arrived, and the forecast for the week called for storms the entire time.  I thought, regardless, we'd get to eat some good food and relax.  It rained for two days then the sun came out and shined for the rest of our trip.

We visited the Mayan ruins, ate some completely amazing food, got massages, and spent many hours quietly sitting on the beach reading and in a state of complete relaxation.

Don't get me wrong, we completely missed our little boy to pieces and bought lots of goodies for him in Mexico, but it was nice to have the opportunity to relax, knowing that he was being taken care of and doted over by my mom, dad, and brother.

Here are some pictures from our trip:

Payton ordered these banana pancakes every morning.

The beach was probably the best I've ever visited, it was beautiful!

Lunch in town, pork fajitas and tacos.

Relaxing at Maya Tulum, waiting for massages.

Lots of kiteboarders out on the ocean, but we chose to relax.

Perfect water, perfect beach, and perfect day!

Huge thanks to Nonna and Papa D for watching our little boy.  It was a great trip!
